Elder Jean A. Briggs departed this life on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. She lived a life marked by devoted Christian service, faithful ministry within her local church, and meaningful influence throughout the Fayetteville and Cumberland County community. She was a woman of faith, strength, dignity, and service, whose life touched many.
Mother Jean Briggs was born on January 9, 1941, in Brunswick, Georgia, to Mr. Willie Ash and Mrs. Jesse Lee Ash. She attended Liberty High School in Midway, Georgia, and later completed her high school education as an adult at Fayetteville Technical Institute. As a young woman, she married the love of her life, Julius Walter Briggs, Jr., on December 3, 1956. After their marriage, they relocated to Fayetteville, North Carolina, where they settled, built their home, and raised their family. From this union, three children were born: Michael Kenneth, Sandra Dee, and Micandra “Mickey.”
Mother Briggs was a woman of many gifts and talents, but in the spirit of hospitality, she was especially known for her love of cooking. Those who knew her would agree that she was an excellent cook, gifted in preparing delicious Southern homemade meals and pound cakes. Her cakes were a special expression of her love. After many years of dedicated service in the food service industry, she retired from the North Carolina public school system.
Mother Briggs accepted Christ at an early age while living in Brunswick, Georgia, and was baptized in 1949. After relocating to Fayetteville, she joined Parks Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in 1969 under the leadership of Dr. E. A. Jackson. She served faithfully under his leadership until his passing and continued her service under the leadership of Apostle William T. Ford and Kingdom Impact Global Ministries.
During her foundational years, Mother Briggs grew in her walk with the Lord and found joy in serving the church. She loved singing and faithfully participated in the choir, the prayer band, and the evangelistic team, traveling extensively throughout the United States. As a result, many souls came to Christ and were set free.
Mother Briggs had a quiet demeanor, but she was always a willing vessel for the work of the Lord. She also served in various leadership roles within ministry auxiliaries, for which she gained recognition and received many accolades. As she continued to grow spiritually, her sense of purpose deepened. Her greatest fulfillment came when she was ordained into ministry.
At Kingdom Impact Global Ministries, she was loved by her pastor and church family. She was a faithful servant on the Elders and Ministerial Council, Mother’s Ministry, and Women’s Ministry. Through her love, many lives were impacted by her presence and prayers. She was known as a praiser, a prayer warrior, and a woman who carried the presence of God with sincerity and power.
Mother Briggs was also a woman of wisdom who spiritually counseled many wounded hearts. She helped walk couples through broken seasons in their marriages, offering prayer, guidance, and encouragement. To many young women and men, she became a mother figure, mentor, and trusted spiritual voice. Her compassion, discernment, and steady faith made her a source of strength to all who needed comfort, direction, and love.
She now joins her beloved husband, Mr. Julius Walter Briggs, Jr.; and two sisters, Dorothy Ash Fox and Sue Nell Ash, who preceded her in death. Her loving memory will continue to live on through her children, Micandra, Sandra, and Michael (Vanessa); three grandchildren, Michael (Faith), Tiffany, and Chanel; one great-granddaughter, Love; her brother-in-law, Adolph (Shirley); two sisters-in-law, Ruby Nash and Tina Briggs; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, spiritual sons and daughters, and all who were blessed by her life and legacy.
Blue’s Mortuary Inc, is honored to assist the Briggs family during this difficult time.
