James Robert Cleveland

James Robert Cleveland, born on January 8, 1961, in Anderson, South Carolina, passed away on November 27, 2024, at Staten Island University Hospital. He leaves behind the memory of a life marked by warmth, kindness, and a spirit that drew people close.

James served in the Army National Guard, a chapter of his life that reflected his strength and sense of duty. He loved the outdoors and found joy in fishing and hunting. More than anything, he loved his family and cherished being around people. He was a ray of sunshine to anyone he came in contact with, and many referred to him as an unforgettable man. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, giving heart, and adventurous nature, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sister, Shirley Ann (Caleb)Blue; his brother, Willie Blocker Jr.; and his nieces, Juliet Hall (Leroy) Brown and Eleanor Hall. In the hearts of those who remain, his presence will continue to be felt in shared memories, in laughter, and in the love of family that meant so much to him.

James was preceded in death by his father, Mitchel E. Ware; his mother, Ola Cleveland; his sister, Barbara Hall; and his brother, Charles Cleveland. Their memories, together with his, remain a lasting part of the family’s story.

A memorial service will be held on August 29, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Blue's Mortuary, INC, 804 South Market St., Benson, NC 27504.

James Robert Cleveland will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives were brightened by his presence.
